The Process of Making your Dress...
The starting point is an initial no obligation consultation, where together we research and develop an initial design. This is an exciting session where a combination of drawing and draping fabrics on the dummy will help give you sense of your design in 3 dimensions.
Following our brainstorm we will have a further meeting to discuss the final design of your dress and this then allows us to produce a final rendering, make all the decisions on appropriate fabrics and develop the an accurate costing for you. Once we have agreed the design of your dress and you wish to go ahead, we will then ask you to agree to our Terms of Business before production takes place. 50% of the total cost is due here, and the final 50% on completion. No money is payable before this time. The perfect execution of your dress is important to us and we therefore need to undertake a number of fittings to ensure that your gown does you justice on your big day! |
There are usually five fittings depending on the complexity of your design. These are:
1. 1st Fitting – where the basic shape of your gown is drafted in calico and fitted directly onto your body.
This is called a toile.
2. 2nd Fitting - a refit of the toile or more likely the fitting of the structural layers of the gown.
Additional elements of the gown may also be toiled here.
3. 3rd Fitting - the gown begins to take shape - the structural layers are complete and the upper most layers are
fitted in the final fabric
4. 4th Fitting - a final check before the gown is completed - fixings will be inserted and any intricate surface detail
may be finally placed here.
5. Final Fitting and Collection - This will take place ten days to two weeks before your wedding day to ensure that
you have the best possible fit on your wedding day. It also allows time for any issues to be rectified.
If all is well then the gown is now yours to take.
Fittings
The 1st, 2nd Fitting and Final Fittings will be planned in advance. Interim fittings will be planned during the 1st or 2nd Fittings as the time required will vary on the result of these sessions.
Many brides-to-be will wish to bring their Mother, Bridesmaid, or Fiancé to fittings. You are very welcome to do this and there is plenty of space in the studio, however please do just let Annie know before the fitting so catering can be arranged!
You should allow up to two hours for the toile fitting and an hour and a half for the following fittings - though these on average, take an hour.
